Fr Bruno Leitao, former Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim footballer, died on Friday at South Goa District Hospital after battling Covid-19. He was undergoing treatment in the Covid hospital after contracting the virus.
Fr Bruno, who hailed from Chinchinim, played for Sirvodem Sports Club in the GFA under-19 tournament. He also donned the colours of Union of Chinchinim Villagers in the GFA Third Division League and played for Diocesan priests in the Vocation.
Oswaldo D'Costa, former Physical Education Director of Rosary HSS, said he was sad to hear the demise of Fr Bruno and described him as "well-disciplined and dedicated" to his role when the higher secondary school participated in the Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament in Delhi.
Valentino Baretto, Deputy Sarpanch of Chinchinim, said: “We lost a God's servant. I offer my condolences to the bereaved family.” Mauricio Afonso, former Dempo SC coach said he was saddened with the demise of Fr Bruno and described him as “a nice human being and a good footballer.”
Joe Dias, president of South Goa District Congress committee, Anthony Pango, vice-president of GFA, and Cyril Leitao also condoled the death of Fr Bruno.
