The Goa Basketball Association (GBA) and the Panjim Basketeers club took a proud moment to felicitate two of Goa’s finest individuals ” Pratima Dhond and Jeshua Antonio Dos Remedios Pinto ” for their exceptional contributions to sports and public life.
Pratima Dhond, a former national basketball player and the first lady President of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was honoured with the Achievement Award in recognition of her illustrious achievements in sports, her decades-long service in public life, and her continuous efforts toward women’s welfare. Jeshua Pinto, meanwhile, was celebrated for his outstanding accomplishment of being selected to represent India at the FISU World University Games in Germany, becoming the first Goan basketballer to achieve this honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Pratima Dhond inspired the young athletes present, saying, “Take up a sport, work hard, dream big ” and one day, you will achieve your goals. Sports will teach you lessons that last a lifetime.” Jeshua Pinto, in his remarks, shared how emotional and rewarding the journey has been, saying, “It was a dream to wear the India jersey. Players from Goa too can make it big ” it takes hours of hard work and sweat every day, determination and sacrifice but the end result is always worth it.” GBA President Shane Dias, GBA Vice President Sandeep Heble, and BFI Vice President Fr Ralin De Souza among others were present to honour the two torchbearers of Goan basketball.
