Guardian Angel Sports Club Curchorem defeated Albert Developers 2-1 to march into the quarterfinals of Goa Police Cup football tournament organised by Goa Police Sports Club Sports Cell, at Dramapur ground on Thursday.
Guardian Angel led 2-0 at half time. It was a quick start to the match as both the sides looked for a breakthrough in the opening exchanges. However, it was Guardian Angel who scored first in the 13th minute. Johnson Horta shrugged off his marker and chipped it over an onrushing rival keeper to score the opener.
The goal boosted Curchorem players as they mounted more pressure and troubled the rival goalkeeper. Hardworking midfielder Gilbert Olveira scored the second goal in the 37th minute as Guardian Angel secured a comfortable lead at the break.
Down 0-2, Albert Developers rallied in the second half but the rival defenders did well in keeping their citadel intact. In the 69th minute, Shubham Dessai reduced the margin for Albert Developers. At the other end, Guardian Angel had a few more scoring chances but couldn’t capitalise.
