Goa University settled for runners-up position at the West Zone Inter University Football Women Championship 2023-24, organised by ITM University, Gwalior held recently.
In the playoff match with group D winners Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Goa University overcame a stiff challenge from the Shivaji University girls via tie-breaker Karen Estrocio put Goa University in front at the start of the second half. Shivaji University equalised with 3 minutes from the end.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Goa University triumph 3-2 with Goa University keeper Jossel Mascarenhas saving three spot kicks to take Goa University into the All India Inter University Championship 2023-24.
In the West Zone league, Goa University drew with Mumbai University 1-1 in the first league match. Aniela Barretto was the scorer for Goa. In their second match, Goa University beat University of Kota, Rajasthan 3-0. Pushpa Parab, Karen Estrocio and Aaroshi Govekar were the scorers.
In the last league match, Goa University who needed a win to retain the title were held to a 2- 2 draw by LNIPE, Gwalior. Pushpa Parab scored a brace for Goa.
