The Goans Hockey Junior boys team ended their campaign at the Hockey India Junior championship with yet another embarrassing 17-1 loss to Hockey Maharashtra in their third and concluding match of the group in Punjab on Thursday.
The Goan youngsters thus finished the campaign with an all-lose record and conceded 43 goals in the process and scored three, one goal in each of their matches.
The Goan began their campaign in the national championship, which is for players U-20 with a 15-1 loss to Manipur, followed by 11-1 loss to Himachal Pradesh and wound up their assignments with a defeat against the neighboring state Maharashtra.
Of the 17 goals that Maharashtra pumped past Goans, three of them were penalty conversions while the rest were field goals.
Maharashtra goals came through two hat tricks by Jay Kale and Ravi Paresh Bharadia. Arjun Santosh Hargude, Sachin Rushi Rajgade, Pawar Raj Rajesh and Kartik Ramesh Patare scored two goals apiece.
Bhosale Sahil Mangesh, Joseph Anthony Domingo, and Vishal Shridhar Mandade scored one goal each while Gaunkar Krish Shyam pulled one back for Goans Hockey.
Like in the previous two matches, where goals were scored against the Goans within the first five minutes, yesterday also the scenario was the same.
Kale started the scoring in the fifth minute and added a second one two minutes later and went on to complete his hat trick in the 27th minute, the sixth goal of the match for Maharashtra.
In between goals from Domingo (Penalty Corner) in 14th minute and Hargude’s two goals in the 17 and 23rd minute to make it 5-0.
Maharashtra continued to toy with the Goa team picking up holes in the defense and scoring at will.
Rajgade scored two goals, in the 28th and 29th minutes, while Mangesh, Rajesh, Bharadia and Kartik Patare scored goals and got their name on the scorers list which took the score line to a dozen goals in the 40th minute.
Shyam pulled one back in the 41st minute for the Goans Hockey to make it 12-1.
Goa’s massacre did not stop, with Bharadia scoring two more goals to complete his hat trick while Mandade, Patare and Pawar, scored one goal each to take their match tally to two goals.
