Goans Hockey gained a rare point in a one-all draw with Hockey Gujarat in the second league match of the Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship.
For the Goan boys coached by Aviraj Madgaonkar, coaching the Goan team for the second time in quick succession, this is the second draw for him in five matches.
Incidentally, his first draw also came against Gujarat in July this year, with the two teams playing out a 2-2 draw.
Goa sub juniors like the junior and senior team have been suffering embarrassing defeats. The Goan Sub juniors have now conceded 108 goals in 13 matches in 16 months.
Yesterday in Chandīgarh, the Goans Hockey led 1-0 at the end of half-time play. It was Gujarat which dominated forcing nine penalty corners but were not successful in converting even one of them, on the other hand Goans Hockey got four but could not penetrate past the rival defense.
Sahil Pramod Jambotkar scored a field goal in the 11th minute to give the Goans the lead and the Goans held on to the slender lead till the 56th minute.
The Goan defense finally caved in with four minutes left for the final whistle with Jenis Chauhan scoring a field goal.
Goa now have lost one and drawn one, they lost 9-0 to Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in their first match and play their third and last match on Thursday against Tamil Nadu.
Gujarat, which lost 11-4 to Tamil Nadu in the first match, also opened their points tally with yesterday’s draw. They take on Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in their last match.
