MARGAO
Gomanchal Warriors emerged as the champions of the Goa Veterans Cricket League 2, defeating Desserts N'More Avengers by 19 runs in a low-scoring final at the MCC Ground, Margao on Sunday.

After winning the toss, the Avengers chose to field first and managed to bowl Gomanchal Warriors out for 124 runs in 19.2 overs. After a solid effort with the ball, the Avengers' chase fell short as they were bowled out for just 105 runs in 17 overs, handing the Warriors the victory. Gomanchal Warriors were awarded Rs 2 lakh, while the runners-up received Rs 1 lakh.

Key contributions from Krishna Volvoikar (31), Prasad Patil (22*), Suraj Sawal (20), and Satyen Belekar (17) helped Gomanchal surpass the 120-run mark. A 48-run partnership between Prasad and Suraj for the 6th wicket was their best stand, following a solid 43-run second-wicket partnership between Krishna and Satyen.

In bowling, Lokesh Sharma was the standout performer for Gomanchal Warriors, taking four wickets for just 13 runs in 4 overs. Prasad Patil also impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets. Sameer and Zaheer Sadekar chipped in with one wicket each.

For Desserts N'More Avengers, Naresh Parsekar took three wickets, while Sagar Gosavi, Vinod Wilson, Ayub Khan, Tushar Sawant, and Rajdeep Dhadhem each picked up one wicket.

The Avengers’ chase was revived by a 54-run third-wicket partnership between Shishir Divkar (52 off 34 balls) and Vikas Dessai (13), but the rest of the batting collapsed, with no other player reaching double figures. Shishir's valiant effort, which included five boundaries and three sixes, couldn’t save his team from defeat.

Prasad Patil was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance. Shishir Divkar and Mrunmay Das were awarded Best Batsman and Best Bowler awards, respectively.

The trophies were presented by chief guest Anup Kudchadkar, along with Vinod Phadke, Pravin Blagon, and Nitin Chopdekar.
