The third edition of the GVCA Veterans Cricket Tournament, organized by the Goa Veterans Cricket Association (GVCA), got underway on Thursday with exciting contests held simultaneously at the GCA Ground in Porvorim and the SAG Ground in Chicalim.
On the opening day, Gomanchal Warrior, Desserts N More Avengers, Vasco Warriors, and Priority Titans began their campaigns on a winning note.
The inaugural ceremony at Porvorim was graced by former Goa Cricket Association President Chetan Desai, GVCA President Vinod Phadke (Balu), and other dignitaries. Meanwhile, at Chicalim, the tournament was inaugurated by MLA Daji Salkar and Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Girish Borkar.
At GCA ground, Porvorim, Gomanchal Warrior won by 29 runs, Gomanchal Warrior posted a total of 195/6 in 20 overs, thanks to solid contributions from Ram Nagvekar (64)*, Ravi Shetye (46), and Rajendra Dabholkar (29). In reply, Cricket Corner managed 166/5 in their allotted overs, with Abhijit Kadam (44) and Sandeep D’Mello (39) putting up resistance. The man of the match was Ram Nagvekar.
In the second match, Desserts N More Avengers won by 91 runs. Desserts N More Avengers dominated their game, scoring 205/4 in 20 overs, led by a blistering knock of 98 by Vikas Desai*, supported by Pritesh Naik (34). Cafe Bhonsle were bowled out for 114 in 14.5 overs, as the Avengers’ bowlers, led by Chetan Mardolkar (3/16) and Naresh Assoldekar (2/15), wreaked havoc. Vikas Desai was named man of the match.
Elsewhere, at SAG Ground, Chicalim, Vasco Warriors won by 8 runs. Vasco Warriors put up 159/3 in 20 overs, powered by Asad Pathan’s explosive 83. In response, Mallikarjun Veterans fell short, finishing at 151/7, despite Siddhesh Prabhu Alvencar’s 59. Asad Pathan was adjudged as the man of the match.
In the day’s final encounter, Priority Titans won by 44 runs. Priority Titans scored 132/8 in 20 overs, with Salil Agharkar (28) and Mateen (26) contributing key runs. RMK Eleven were bundled out for 88 in 16.5 overs, as Agharkar starred with the ball, taking 5/13, supported by Muktiar Kadri (4/13). Salil Agharkar was declared as the man of the match.
