DOHA, QATAR
India and Bangladesh have not qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar or for that matter any of the previous editions and thus will not feature in the official Fans’ Cup of the World Cup.
The two Asian countries will feature in a one-day 7-a-side football tournament involving six teams on November 19 and 20, organisers of the event informed. The event will take place at the sporting arena of Al Rayyan International School and will be played on a league cum knockout basis with the top teams from the league stages making it to the final. The other teams in the tournament are hosts Qatar, England, Mexico and Argentina.
Mexican fan Miguel is excited to be part of the tournament ahead of the official FIFA Fans Cup. “We as Mexicans fans are delighted and excited that a tournament of such a nature is taking place in Qatar ahead of the FIFA Fans Cup. We are counting the hours and day when we will fly to Qatar and get ready for this tournament,” said Miguel. “It is a nice opportunity to finetune your team for the FIFA Fans Cup,” he added.
Meanwhile the World Cup organisers have announced the Fans’ Cup will be held from November 29 to December 2 in central Doha with fans competing for the biggest title in football fandom. The Fans’ Cup is a four-day event bringing fans from across the world together to take part in a thrilling five-a-side tournament during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Fans from all 32 competing nations are invited to take part to determine the champions of the fan world.
The competing teams will consist of minimum of 7 players and maximum of 10 players, of same gender and over 18 years of age during the football showpiece event with passionate fans competing for amazing prizes. All visiting players must have travel and accommodation secured for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 during the dates of the Fans’ Cup and must be nationals/residents of the country that they want to represent.
The tournament mirrors the FIFA World Cup model, with group matches and knockout rounds over four days until the winner is crowned. Matches will start and end early to ensure fans can both compete in the Fans’ Cup and make it to FIFA World Cup matches on time.
