Stating that Kannadigas are living in Goa for generations and have availed the benefits of various fecilities, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the government does not have any objection to the setting up of a Kannada Bhavan in the State.
"However, they should purchase their own land and build their bhavan," said Sawant.
He was speaking at Bicholim after inaugurating the 14th cultural sammelan of Kannadigas organised by Karmbhumi Kannada Sangh, Bicholim.
Chandrashekhar Shivachary Swamiji, Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, MLAs Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Premendra Shet, Michael Lobo, Rajesh Patnekar, Kundan Falari, President Satishkumar Hosmani, Hanumantapa Reddy and others were present.
The Chief Minister said there are some people settled in Goa but some are fighting and disturbing the peace of the State which will not be tolerated. He also said Goan people respect people from outside the State and but they should abide by all the rules and regulations of the State.
He said Goa is a State were all people of all religions work hand in hand. Kannadigas must avail of the benefits of the State and Centre for up upliftment of their families.
Swamiji also advised the people to work hand in hand with the Goan people.
Hanumantapa Reddy welcomed the gathering. Various cultural programmes and big dindi was also organised to mark the occasion.
