Top seed Joshua Mark Telles clinched the title at the All Goa Liberation Cup Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2025, held at Dr. K. B. Hegdewar School, Cujira. Telles delivered an impressive performance, scoring 8 points out of 9 to secure the championship.
Satyam Phal and WCM Gunjal Chopdekar also finished with 8 points each, taking second and third place respectively on tiebreak.
A strong field followed closely behind: Saras Powar, Supriyo Das, and Dmitry Bezstrakhov scored 7.5 points apiece to claim the 4th to 6th positions. Players scoring 7 points and finishing 7th to 15th included Mohd. Latheef S, Sai Prabhakaran, Anar Shayakberov, Tanad Bandodkar, Jess Cardozo, Arthav Shirodker, AFM Vasant Naik, Shaurya Agrasani, and Nagesh Nayak.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Asian Youth Under-7 medal winner Prayank Gaonkar and Under-7 National Champion Evan Telles were felicitated for their exceptional achievements.
Chief guest Melwyn Camara praised the Queens Chess and Cultural Club for its continued efforts in promoting chess across Goa. Chief Arbiter Sanjay Kavalekar presented the Arbiter’s report, while Ex-AICF Treasurer Kishor Bandekar also addressed the gathering.
Also present on the dais were Sameer Naik, Secretary of QTCA; Ex-State Chess Champion Vasant Naik; and Chess Coach Balakrishnan V.
