Keona, Derrick maintain lead in Windsurfing c'ship

Reigning champion Keona Rajani and Derrick Menezes from Goa led the twin tip racing category in female and male category respectively at the end of first day's racing of the Yachting Association of India (YAI) National Kite Boarding and Windsurfing Championship being held near Montego Bay Hotel at Vithaldas vaddo in Morjim on Thursday.

In the Under-13 (women) windsurfing results, ten year old Naavya Kaku won two races and Did Not Finish (DNF) the third to be in an unassailable position.

“It is the first time, I am sailing on this beach but I expect to do better tomorrow,” said Naavya whose mother grew up in Goa.

Sachin Ganesh from Tamil Nadu finished with the first rank in the IQ foil class at close of day one with seven points. M Padhan, representing Goa finished second.

Reigning champion Jyoti Basu from Tamil Nadu did not have the best of finishes in the kiteboarding class but was not deterred. “I am happy that a colleague of mine from the same school is in the lead. It’s all in the family,” he said.
