Kuwait Masters consisting of some famous Goan stars from Kuwait beat a formidable Bardez Veterans team, one of the top Goan teams consisting of some Goan legends, 2-1 at Duler ground, Mapusa in a challenging exhibition match.
Duarte Ferrao was the star of the match scoring two quick goals in the second half after Bardez had taken the lead off a deflected self-goal by Kuwait defender Sandy Fernandes. The teams were level 0-0 at half time.
Kuwait Masters fielded a strong eleven with Joe Pereira, Regi, Sandy and Gaby marshalling the defence while Steven Rodrigues, Gasper Crasto and Michael Dias took charge of the midfield with Brandon, Casmiro and Zelito Cardozo playing as strikers. Goalkeeper Seby Mendes played a confident game in the goal. Anthony Fernandes (goalkeeper), Christi, Duarte Ferrao, Seby, Malvy, Jerry Dmello, Roland D'Sa, etc, were the other players who took the field.
Joe Pereira captained the Masters and also played a great game on the right wing. Bardez Veterans consisted of Sameer Naik, Daniel Noronha, Sujit Rane, Avito Fernandes, Alex Alvarez, Benedict Fernandes, Raymond Alvarez, Claudio Pacheco, Shailesh Miskin, Lino Pereira, Dominic Pereira, Jude Fernandes, etc.
The winners were awarded a trophy at the hands of legendary footballer Salu Fernandes (Ex-Sesa and Goa), the chief guest on the occasion. Duarte Ferrao won the Man of the match, as well as farewell scorer prize.
Special invitees present were Raymond D’Sa, former president of Goa Maroons (Kuwait), Fidelis Fernandes (Ex-president, Kuwait Indian Football Federation), Bosco Leitao (CRC Chinchinim Kuwait, ex-president), Venancio Pereira, etc.
Julio Cardoso compered the function as he entertained everyone with his expert commentary and witty dialogues. MC Nathan Mendes also amazed the spectators with his excellent diction. A number of Kuwait supporters with family and friends voiced their excitement throughout the match.
