MARGAO: Loyola High School, Margao and The Kings School, Sao Jose De Areal entered the finals of the boys and girls categories respectively of the All Goa inter-school U-14 football tournament, organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim in memory of Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa, at Panchayat ground, Seraulim.
Loyola High School scored a 3-0 victory over Infant Jesus High School, Colva. Credit has to be given to the Colva keeper Vikas Gudimani who brought up atleast three brillant saves to keep the final score to 3-0. The first half was equally dominated as Colva striker Rahul Shirapali was in brillant form and was occassionally seen tearing the Loyola defense. The best scoring opportunity Loyola got was a penalty in the first half however Ruben Barbosa's shot hit the keeper's right post and rebounded back to play.
The second half saw Loyola going for the attack and finally were able to break the deadlock in the 31st minute when Ruben Barbosa shot from close after dribbling a couple of defenders. It was then Loyola going for the attack and once again scored two quick goals through Irwin Faleiro and Shane Almeida to nail Infant Jesus Colva 3-0.
In the girls' match, The Kings HS, Sao Jose De Areal scored a convincing victory against Infant Jesus HS Colva 2-0. Analee D'Costa scored the first goal in the eighth minute of the first half when she dribbled past three players on the left flank and smartly tapped the ball in the far corner of the nets giving no chance to the Colva keeper.
Niveghya Prakash rounded off the tally to make it 2-0 in the 28th minute of the second half when she too ran solo on the right flank with the ball and beat the Colva defense on sheer speed and shot from close to make it 2-0 in favour of her team.
In the boys category, the player of the match was awarded to Infant Jesus High School's keeper Vikas Gudimani for his excellent saves while Nivedhya Prakash from The Kings School received the player of the match in the girls category
The finals will be played on February 11 at 4 pm.
