Mount Mary were crowned champions of the All-Nagoa 7-a-side Inter-Ward Football Tournament after defeating Goa Police 5-2 in an entertaining final played under floodlights at the Nagoa Panchayat Ground on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by the Village Panchayat of Nagoa in association with the Pax of Nagoa Sports Club.
Mount Mary dominated proceedings from the outset and secured a convincing victory thanks to braces from Steven Satardekar and Ajay Satardekar, while Beneston added the fifth goal. Goa Police managed to score through Subham and Shadick, but were unable to halt Mount Mary's attacking charge.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Nagoa Sarpanch Gabriel Fernandes, who was the chief guest. He presented the trophies and awards in the presence of Ravindra Cabral, Carey Fernandes and other dignitaries.
Individual awards were also presented at the conclusion of the tournament. Steven Satardekar of Mount Mary was named Best Striker, while teammate Ajay Satardekar received the Best Midfielder award. Akash Yadav was adjudged Best Goalkeeper and Pawan Thapa was named Best Defender.
