Navelim Villagers Union hammered Varca Sports Club 3-0 to march into the finals of Carmona Village Panchayat Cup organised by Carmona Sports Club played at Panchayat ground, Carmona.
Navelim dominated the match from the start and scored the first goal through Preston Costa in the 10th minute. Nash Pereira doubled the lead in the 17th minute. At half-time, Navelim led by two goals. In the second half, Nash scored the third goal in the 30th minute to take Navelim into the finals where they will play the winners of the second semifinal between Don Bosco and Curtorim Gymkhana which will be played on November 29.
The finals of the tournament will be held on December 8.
Sagar wins RCC Fatorda chess tournament
PANAJI: Sagar Shetty won the RCC Fatorda Chess Tournament organised by Fatorda Parents Chess Club on November 25, at Manohar Parrikar Stadium, Navelim, Salcete. In the junior category, Om Madgaonkar of RCC Curchorem won first place.
The prizes were given at the hands of chief guest Vinayak Kamat, senior SAG badminton coach, in the presence of Vijayanand Naik, president of Parents Chess Club, secretary Preety Mendes, SAG chess coach IA Sanjay Kavlekar, arbiter Amrit Naik and members of the Parents Chess Club.
Prizes: Open category - 1st place Sagar Shetty, 2nd Vedant Pai, 3rd Asmi Terse; Junior category - 1st place Om Madgainkar, 2nd Samiksh Gaonkar, 3rd Jerlin Fernandes; Age category - U-7 best boy - Lester Cardozo, Best girl - Raiza Fernandes, U-9 best boy - Heramb Gainkar, Best girl - Rochel Pereira, U-11 best boy - J A Simplicio Viegas, best girl - Rachel Pereira; U-13 best boy - Vighnesh Sawkar & Tangeesh Naik, best girl - Vidhi Lolayekar.
Loyola HS win St Britto football title
PANAJI: Loyola High School, Margao defeated St Britto's High School, Mapusa in the finals to win St John De Britto Inter-school U-14 Football Tournament at St Britto's School Ground, Mapusa on Saturday.
Loyola came back from a goal down to beat arch-rivals and home team St Britto's 2-1. Twelve schools from all over Goa participated in the invitational football tournament which was organised by Britto's Old Boys Association in association with Estilo Sports and Desserts 'n More.
