Goa Sports Foundation (GSF), a newly constituted sports promotion body, has invited applications for membership.
GSF aims to identify Goan talent for mission 2036 Olympics and promote local sports talent. “Formation of State associations in some disciplines is the need of the hour, without which National Games cannot be organised in Goa,” GSF said in a press release.
“The GSF is being promoted in view of the inequities that the Goan talent have had to face at the national level, with many selected from Goa who are in reality not of Goan origin,” it said. “Goa has become an entry point for sports players to represent Goa, with even some sports organisations going by the Goa name but having no Goan in it,” the press release stated.
The aim of GSF is to identify Goan talent at a very young schooling age, groom them for years so that they make it to the Olympics. Applicants seeking membership to GSF and forming State association must essentially be of Goan ancestry, with at least one of the aspiring member’s parents or grandparents born in Goa.
