Daredevil acts on the motor racing track is her forte. Having absolute control over the racing machine has not been easy. She has fallen but every fall has been a lesson learnt the hard way. It has not deterred her but made her stronger. She has arisen again to get over the physical and mental challenges which await her in the sport which not many Goan women have taken as a hobby or as a profession.
Meet Olesya Dias from Maina Curtorim from Salcete, who for the last four years has been setting the motorsports tracks ablaze with her speed. Faster and faster is her motto. If prizes, awards and felicitations come her way she is more than happy.
One such felicitation invitation came her way from far away Qatar. The 29-year-old girl has no sponsors and is supported in her sporting pursuits by her Kuwait-based father Salvador Dias. Olesya enjoyed the spotlight and the felicitation function and is looking forward to the next event.
But one thing which made her sad was she was not able to walk the ramp and have a shot at the May Ball Queen contest. “My daughter could not take part in the contest, she was disappointed. The organizers told me that the date to register for the contest had closed when we approached them to enrol her for the contest and nothing could be done,” Salvador informed.
Away from the beauty pageant and fashion shows, Olesya Dias had her moment of glory on the podium as she won the Hero Dirt Biking Challenge in the women’s category in November last year.
"I am very happy to be vying for top honours and I aim to become a national rider. I am proud and will be looking forward to more racing opportunities," Olesya said.
