Pilerne Sports Club prevailed over Sinquerim Sports Club 3-1 via the tiebreaker to win the FC Tuem Champions Trophy organised by FC Tuem in association with CAM Group of Companies at DYSA ground, Tuem on Sunday.
In a fast-paced encounter, Sinquerim scored a first goal in the 26th minute through the boots of Pratik Tirodkar, who netted with a neat placement. But their joy was short-lived as in the 25th minute, Hadson D’mello of Pilerne SC equalised.
The teams went into the breather level at 1-1. Post resumption, both teams tried to score but without success and the match ended in a draw at regulation time. In the shootout, Pilerne scored through Sidhant Naik, Nikhil Naik and Hudson D’mello while Rajat Naik was the lone scorer for Sinquerim SC.
Pilerne SC were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, gold medals and a trophy while Sinquerim SC bagged a prize of Rs 50,000, silver medals and a trophy. President of FC Tuem and director of CAM Group of Companies, Dr Caitano Fernandes, welcomed the chief guest Bramhanand Sankhwalkar and guest of honour, Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar. Rev Fr Mathias D’cunha, Salesian of Don Bosco Tuem, Shantaram Naik, executive member of GFDC, Sanjeev Nagvenkar, manager of Salgaoncar FC and executive member of GFDC, Marvando Mascarenhas, engineer, Directorate of Panchayats, Sulaksha Naik, Sarpanch of Tuem and Sweety Naik, Panch member of Tuem, were present on the occasion.
Individual prizes: Best defender - Raju Abbigiri (Sinquerim SC), Best goalkeeper - Kurpesh Bandodkar (Pilerne SC), Best striker - Pratik Tirodkar (Sinquerim SC), Player of the tournament - Sanket Jotkar (Pilerne SC).
