A brace by striker Francis Colaco and goals by Schubert Borges and substitute Aloysius Fernandes enabled PY Nuvem to register a fluent 4-1 win against SCC Loutolim and enter the quarterfinals of Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Football Tournament at Musson ground, Majorda.
PY Nuvem took the lead in the 7th minute when Joywin Costa sped down the left flank and sent a measured cross to Schubert Borges, who banged the ball into the Loutolim net, giving no chance to goalkeeper Meiben Fernandes. SCC Loutolim hit back as Flager Morares sent a scorching shot that crashed into the corner of the net in the 15th minute.
PY Nuvem then dominated the proceedings and the Loutolim defence started to crumble under slightest of pressure. PY Nuvem made it 2-1 in the 53rd minute through a stylish goal by Francis Colaco. He increased the lead soon, scoring in the 54 th minute off an assist by veteran Nicolau Colaco. In the last 10 minutes, Loutolim played a completely defensive game to prevent their citadel from falling futher, and the match finished 4-1 in favour of PY Nuvem.
Goa Police Veterans ease into last-eight
Goa Police Veterans downed Carmel Curtorim Veterans 2-0 and moved into the quarterfinals of the football tournament organised by Batora United Veterans Curtorim at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Friday.
Rohidar Mhalaji of Goa Police Veterans was the star of the match with his dribbling and shooting skills and netted both the goals for Goa Police, finding the net twice in the first half in the 8th and 30th minutes.
University football: Vidya Prabodhini win big
Vidya Prabodhini College, Porvorim hammered Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora 6-0 in the Inter Collegiate Football Championship for women organised by Goa University.
At Goa University ground, Divya Sangodkar scored a hat-trick (13th, 25th and 28th) while Franca Lobo netted a brace (24th & 35th), and Tanvi Khedekar scored in the 50th minute to seal a big win for Vidya Prabodhini College.
In the second match, DMC Assagao defeated Govt College Sanquelim by a solitary goal scored by Mital Gawander in the 5th minute. Govt College Quepem defeated S.S Dempo College, Cujira 3-0 as Damini Tate and Larissa Oliveira scored in the 17th and 25th minutes respectively before Kanwiksha Rekdo made it 3-0 in the 31st minute.
At Rosary College ground, MES College, Zuarinagar defeated Govt College, Borda 4-0. Velina Cabral scored a brace (11th & 40th), while Pooja Bind (38th) and Cibira Rodrigues (46th) scored a goal each. In the second match, Govt College, Pernem beat Govind Kare College of Law with two second-half strikes by Sanjana Naik (42nd) and Triveni Sawant (46th).
