MARGAO
The Regina Martyrum Parish Cup 2024, an inter-ward 5-a-side football and tiebreaker tournament for men and women, kicked off on Saturday at the Church ground in Assolna.
Organized by Regina Martyrum Parish for the local villagers, the tournament began with an inaugural ceremony featuring the release of balloons shaped like rosaries.
The first match saw Mulleavaddo Baimfol face off against CGC-A in a thrilling encounter. Mulleavaddo Baimfol emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, securing their spot in the quarterfinals. The match’s lone goal came from Croydon Fernandes in the 14th minute, who was also named Player of the Match.
In the second match, Ambelim-A dominated Tarivaddo-B, winning 9-0. Delton D’Silva led the charge with an impressive four-goal performance. Movin Fernandes, Ralyvon Cardozo, and Velroy D’Silva each added a goal to the tally. Delton D’Silva was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The tiebreaker matches also delivered excitement. In the first contest, Banda triumphed over Orel with a score of 2-1, with Kisha and Sushmita scoring for Banda, while Orel managed a consolation goal from Great. In the second tiebreaker match, Ambelim showcased their strength by defeating Bairo Premeiro Bainaque 3-0, with goals from Jamice, Filu, and Sylvia.
Benjamin Silva and Simon Luis officiated both matches as referees.
