Sarzora Sports Club beat Curtorim Gymkhana 6-5 via tiebreaker to be crowned the champions of Holy Cross inter-village football tournament held at Vodlemoll Kakoda ground.
Sarzora took the lead in the first half when they were awarded a penalty kick. Ashton Fernandes scored from the spot for Sarzora. In the second half, Curtorim Gymkhana equalised when Aleeward Mascarenhs scored from a one-on-one situation. In the tiebreaker, Sarzora emerged victorious as they managed to score through Kidron, Myron, Aston, Tristan, Janio while Joywin, Joshley, Frazier, Veron converted for Curtorim Gymkhana.
Sarzora were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,11,111 and a trophy while Curtorim Gymkhana were awarded Rs 77,777 and a trophy. Prizes: First scorer of the finals - Ashton Fernandes, Best goalkeeper - Johnson Bhagot, Best defender - Ryan Fernandes, Promising player of the tournament - Aleeward Mascarenhs.
Vishwas Sawant, chairperson of Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council was the chief guest. Seriton Fernandes, FC Goa player, Reema Alies, Yolanda, Anthony Pango, Kishan Sawant, Shankar Gaonkar, Ali Shaikh, Jhoncy Fernandes were other dignitaries present for the prize distribution ceremony.
