The South Goa District Badminton Association (SGDBA), in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association, Margao Shuttlers and the Sports Authority of Goa, successfully conducted two 15-day Badminton Coaching Camps at the Multipurpose Stadium, Quepem (25 trainees), and Balram Residential School, Khotigav, Gavdongri, Canacona (26 trainees) which witnessed an enthusiastic response from 50+ young trainees in all.
The initiative marked an important step in SGDBA’s grassroots promotion program aimed at identifying and nurturing budding talent from the district. The closing ceremonies were graced by Altone D'Costa, Quepem MLA, Savita Tavadkar, Headmistress of Balram Residential School, along with Shailesh Vaidya of the Vaidya Foundation, sports promoter Bhavesh Kothari, GBA Secretary Praveen Shenoy, SGDBA office bearers Vrushali Cardozo and Vinayak Kamat among others.
The South Goa District Badminton Association, led by its Patron “ Yogiraj Kamat, President “ Vrushali Cardozo, Secretary “ Vinayak Kamat, and Treasurer “ Kapil Kamat, along with Executive Members Naved Tahashildar, Jaywant Saraf, Siddharth Rivonkar, Ninad Kamat, and Guru Khandeparkar, has charted a clear roadmap for the development of badminton across South Goa. The Association’s first project focuses on grassroots expansion through coaching camps across rural talukas.
The second phase aims to host district-level tournaments in talukas with suitable infrastructure”having started with Navelim (Salcete Taluka) and soon extending to Quepem and Vasco. SGDBA also plans to enhance the technical expertise of umpires and line judges from South Goa, ensuring professional standards in upcoming district and state-level competitions.
