MARGAO: The 27th edition of the Holy Cross Intervillage Football Tournament got underway with Sporting Club Davorlim securing a narrow 1-0 win over United Boys of Ambaulim in a tightly contested match.
Both teams started cautiously, with Davorlim surprisingly taking a defensive approach in the first half. Ambaulim created a few chances but were denied by Davorlim’s solid defense and a sharp performance from their goalkeeper.
The game came alive in the second half as Davorlim showed more attacking intent. The decisive moment arrived in the 50th minute when Velroy Colaco capitalised on a corner, striking a well-placed shot from the edge of the box that beat the Ambaulim keeper.
Ambaulim pushed hard for an equaliser in the final minutes, but Davorlim’s defense held firm to seal the win and move into the next round.
