Sporting Club Davorlim edged past Varca Sports Club 5-4 via tie-breaker in a thrilling semi-final encounter of the 15th Davorlim Cup, at the panchayat ground, Davorlim, on Wednesday.
The match was a tense and closely contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to find the net at the end of regulation time. Davorlim's Delton, Agnelo, and Milton came close, while Varca's Aaron and Jobern also missed chances before halftime.
The second half saw similar action, with Varca's Chris firing over the bar and Davorlim's Prince Figueredo squandering a late opportunity. In injury time, Varca's Aaron had a powerful shot saved by Davorlim goalkeeper Avin Vales, forcing the penalty shoot-out.
Davorlim converted all five penalties through William, Adarsh, Shahil, Ajay Raj, and Prince Figueredo. Varca managed to score four through Aaron, Jobern, Salisbury, and Mohammad, but it wasn't enough.
Avin Vales' exceptional performance throughout the match, with a crucial save in injury time, saw him receive the Man of the Match trophy from Alex Borges.
