Verna Veterans needed the luck of the tiebreaker to knock out Vasco Veterans 6-5 and become the first team to enter the semifinals of the Santa Cruz Village Panchayat Veterans Cup football tournament at Santa Cruz ground on Sunday.
Despite their best efforts, the teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation time with Verna and Vasco both going close in either half.
In the tiebreaker, Verna were successful through Phillip, Johnny, Sandeep, Remedious, Vincent and Raymond, while Shaikh, Nelson, Krishna, Agostinho and Luis converted their penalties for Vasco.
Verna now await the winners of the quarterfinal clash between Nuvem Veterans and St Anne Veterans.
