We are hopeful of a win: Goa Head Coach Milap Mewada

PANAJI

Goa appear optimistic on securing an outright win in their opening Ranji fixture against Chandigarh in Porvorim.

The state side won the Plate division - meant for lower-ranked teams last season, to return to the Elite Group, and have given a good account of themselves at the start of a new season.

With an entire day's play and with the opposition 270 runs still behind and 7 wickets in hand, while following on, the firm favourites appear to be the home side for a result.

Speaking to The Goan, new Goa Head Coach Milap Mewada stays positive of a good result..All praise for his bowlers and the side's fielding efforts, he stated "When we started the day, our bowlers executed the plans very well. The fielding and catching was phenomenal."

"It is clearly the effect of the hard work put in by the side in the last three months," the former Afghanistan batting coach at the 2023 ODI World Cup asserted.

"Catches win matches. From Chandigah starting the day at 34-1, to getting them all out for 137 in their first innings was a great achievement," the former Baroda player lauded his team. "With a follow-on enforced, and three wickets down, it is still a good batting wicket. But typical of any fourth day wicket with signs of a little break on the strip, it will certainly help our spinners, the experienced Goa gaffer divulged.

"I am banking on our senior Slow Left arm Orthodox, spinner, Darshan Misal, and our three Offbreak bowlers, Mohit Redkar and Lalit Yadav along with part-time offie, Abhinav Tejrana for support. Each of our Offbreak bowlers are different - in pace, line and length. With the variety in the spin attack, I am hopeful we can pull off a memorable win," Mewada stated.
