CRC Chinchinim edged past Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 5-3 via the tie-breaker to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 19th Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat Cup at the CRC ground, Chinchinim, on Friday.
The match began at a slow pace with both sides displaying determination but failing to find an early breakthrough. Despite a few promising moves, neither team could break the deadlock during regulation time.
Don Bosco came close when Brian Pinto sent a long pass to Shubert, who set up an unmarked Elroy Barreto inside the box, but his shot went off target. At the other end, CRC’s Rowan Fernandes squandered a golden opportunity in the dying minutes, firing over the crossbar with only the goalkeeper to beat. Referee Mario Rebello then blew the final whistle, pushing the match into penalties.
In the shootout, CRC converted through Rowan Fernandes, Vivraj Bangenker, Om Raikar, Larson Rebello and Shario Gomes. For Don Bosco, Ashley Andrade, Richie Vaz and Juslon Soares found the net.
CRC goalkeeper Sunny Fernandes, who excelled under the bar, was adjudged Man of the Match and received the award from Santus Rebello.
