Porvorim Police have booked 147 cases of public drinking of alcohol and causing nuisance, and have collected a fines amounting to Rs 7.35 lakh since 2025.
Porvorim Police mentioned that complaints of drinking alcohol in open places and causing nuisance were on the rise in Porvorim, Salvador do Mundo and surrounding areas of Pilerne and Reis Magos.
Porvorim Police booked cases under the Tourism Act at Patto Torda (24), Old market, Porvorim (5), Socorro (9), Malim Jetty (3), Art Park (10), Paitona (8), Brittona Patto (3), Green Hill (5), Reis Magos (15), Pilerne (13), Porvorim Bazar (17), Pundalik Nagar (05), Salvador Do Mundo Patto (7), Kegdevolim (3), Ramnagar (2,) Annapurna Nagar (7), Near Rajesh Bar (3), Chogm road (1), Opp. Gauri Petrol Pump (1), Galaxy Residency (1), Journalists colony (1), Kavlekar market (1), Kadamba depot (1), Betim (1), Verem (1) and near Rajesh Bar–Saloi (3).
Police imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the 147 cases and collected a total amount of Rs 7.35 lakh.
Porvorim police has not targeted any specific wine shop or place and violations have been booked in order to curb the menace of rising nuisance.
When contacted, Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab mentioned that drinking in public places and creating nuisance has become a regular feature in Porvorim and surrounding areas.
“Police will continue the drive against public drinking of alcohol and causing nuisance,” said PI Parab.
