Curtorim Gymkhana marched into the quarter-finals of the 50th Chandor Seamen Football Tournament, defeating a spirited Shiroda Youth Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker at the Chandor Church Complex ground.
Heavy rain and a deteriorating pitch slowed the pace of the game, but Curtorim drew first blood in the 3rd minute when Milagres Fernandes capitalised on a goalmouth melee to slot home. Shiroda responded before the break through Jonathan Dias, leaving the teams locked 1-1 at half-time.
Both sides pushed hard after the restart but squandered opportunities, forcing the match into penalties. In the shootout, James Fernandes, Joval Martins, and Freddy Hilario were on target for Curtorim, while Placito Cruz and Gladstome Antao converted for Shiroda.
Johnson Bhogot (Curtorim Gymkhana) was adjudged Hero of the Match with the award presented by John A Fernandes, former Deputy Director of Sports & Youth Affairs. Meanwhile, Chandor Club President presented a Golden Jubilee memento to Shiroda Youth Club in recognition of the milestone edition.
