United Boys Ambaulim defeated Sporting Club Davorlim 5-4 in a tie-breaker to enter the quarter-finals of the 3rd Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament, organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers at the Chinchinim church ground.
Davorlim took an early lead in the 7th minute through Levinsius Carvalho, whose precise finish left the Ambaulim goalkeeper with no chance. They held on to the advantage until half-time.
In the second half, Ambaulim pressed hard for an equaliser but were repeatedly denied by the Davorlim goalkeeper. Persistence paid off in the 40th minute when Dailon Carvalho levelled the score. Davorlim nearly snatched victory in the dying moments, but the Ambaulim custodian pulled off a goal-line save to force the match into penalties.
In the shootout, the Ambaulim goalkeeper emerged as the hero, saving the decisive kick to secure his side’s win. He was later adjudged Player of the Match.
The tournament was inaugurated earlier by Frank Viegas, Sarpanch of the Chinchinim Village Panchayat, who attended as the chief guest.
