Goan Strikers win Rebuild India Trust hockey tourney

Goan Strikers emerged champions of the women’s 11-a-side field hockey tournament organised by Rebuild India Trust, defeating Young Sports in a nail-biting final decided by a solitary goal in a tense penalty shootout.

The tournament, held on September 20, featured five competitive women’s teams. The semi-finals saw Goan Strikers take on Young Sports in the A Division, while Stars of Sattari faced Crozen Society.

Diksha Kandolkar, President of Mahila Shakti Abhiyan and former ZP Vice Chairperson, was the chief guest at the final. She encouraged women to continue empowering themselves through sport. Udesh Shetkar served as the guest of honour.

President of the organising committee, Abhay Bhamaikar, stressed the importance of fitness and discipline for women athletes, urging them to strive for excellence and represent Goa with pride. Farrel Furtado also addressed the gathering, reminding players to gear up for the State Championship in November.

The event was compered by Nelly Rodrigues, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Amita Shetkar.
