MARGAO: St. Anthony Assolda’s veteran striker Succor Fernandes scored a dramatic injury-time winner to edge out Peddem Bomm Sporting Club 2-1 and secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Raia Sporting Club and played at the Panchayat Ground in Raia on Saturday.
Assolda took the lead in the 47th minute when Moises D’sa found the back of the net with a well-placed shot, beating the Peddem Bomm goalkeeper and defenders. However, their celebrations were short-lived, as Peddem Bomm’s Santosh Bhulan equalized just two minutes later with a deflected strike that wrong-footed the Assolda defense.
The deciding moment came deep into stoppage time (70+2 minutes) when Assolda brought on substitute and veteran striker Succor Fernandes. A perfectly timed cross from Moises D’sa found Succor, who made no mistake as he headed the ball into the far corner, sealing a thrilling win for St. Anthony Assolda.
Moises D’sa was named Man of the Match for his goal and crucial assist, with the award presented by Trifonio Cardozo, Panch of V.P. Raia.
