MARGAO
Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over hosts Ambelim SC to lift the Cipriano Silva Memorial inter-village football tournament title, organised by Ambelim Sports Club, at Chinchinim Church ground on Saturday.
Paroda dominated proceedings in the first half but failed to convert their chances, with Sowell Fernandes and Savlon Fernandes both missing key opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 48th minute when Livan Clement found the back of the net, scoring what proved to be the match-winning goal.
For their efforts, the champions Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda were awarded a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with the winners' trophy, while runners-up Ambelim SC received ₹70,000 and a trophy.
The chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony was Rev. Fr Joseph Cardoso, Director of the Spirituality Centre Pedro Arrupe, INS Raia. He was joined by Saket Gupta, Executive Director and Chief of the Institute ATI, ONGC Goa; Fr Alex D’Souza, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Hope Church, Chinchinim and Benjamin Silva, Chairman of Ambelim SC.
Also present were Anthony Pango, GFA Vice President; Andrew Ferrao, Anthony Leo Fernandes, Costao Paul, Cosme Oliveira (all GFA Executive Members) and other dignitaries including Melvin D’Costa, John Silva, Charlton, and club officials.
