St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa, clinched the title in the Subroto Mukherjee U-17 Girls Football Tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), after edging past The Kings School, Sao Jose de Areal with a narrow 1-0 victory, at Santa Cruz football ground.
The decisive moment came when Gretchen Vaz struck the only goal of the match, sealing the win for St Xavier’s and earning them a coveted spot at the National Subroto Cup Tournament in Delhi.
The trophy and medals were presented by Dr. Ajay Gaude, Director of DSYA, and Dr. Vivek Pawar, Deputy Director. Also in attendance were APEO Rohidas Ghadi, Zonal Sports Officers Sanjay Shirodkar and Nikesh Panjikar, and State Sports Organiser Anant Sawal.
