United Boys Ambaulim advanced to the quarter-finals of the 3rd Fr. Bruno Leitao Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament after a thrilling 5-4 win in a penalty shootout against Sporting Club Davorlim,organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at Chinchinim Church ground.
Sporting Club Davorlim took an early lead in the 7th minute through Levinsius Carvalho, who finished clinically, leaving the Ambaulim goalkeeper with no chance. Davorlim maintained their 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
The second half saw a determined Ambaulim side pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser. Despite their relentless attacks, the Davorlim goalkeeper stood firm, pulling off a series of crucial saves. However, Ambaulim’s persistence paid off in the 40th minute when Dailon Carvalho struck the equaliser.
Davorlim had a golden opportunity to snatch victory in the final moments, but their one-on-one attempt was brilliantly saved on the goal line by the Ambaulim goalkeeper, sending the match into penalties.
In the tense tie-breaker, it was Ambaulim’s goalkeeper who emerged the hero, pulling off a decisive save on the final kick. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Earlier, the tournament was officially inaugurated by Frank Viegas, Sarpanch of the Chinchinim Village Panchayat, who attended as the Chief Guest.
