United Club Verna booked their spot in the semifinals of the 44th Gold & Silver Rolling Trophy, with a convincing 2-0 victory over Sporting Club Davorlim in a quarterfinal clash held at Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Wednesday. The tournament is being organised by Navelim Sporting Club.

The match began with high intensity as Verna opened the scoring as early as the 4th minute. Johann Abranches capitalised on a loose ball inside the box and fired home past Davorlim goalkeeper Francisco Colaco.

UC Verna almost doubled their lead shortly after when William Niasso, set up beautifully by Peter Colaco, narrowly missed the target. However, they didn't have to wait long as Sheldon Fernandes made it 2-0 in the 24th minute, giving Verna a comfortable lead going into the break.

The second half saw both teams create multiple opportunities, but neither managed to alter the scoreline. UC Verna missed a chance to extend their lead from the penalty spot late in the game, but Francisco Colaco redeemed himself with a fine save to keep Davorlim in the game.

Despite their efforts, Davorlim were unable to break through Verna’s defence, and the match ended 2-0 in favour of UC Verna.

Myron Fernandes, goalkeeper of United Club Verna, was awarded the Man of the Match, presented by former SESA player Miguel Rodrigues, for his composed performance between the posts.
