Wazir, Shaina among winners as nat sub-jr badminton concludes

The Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025 concluded on Sunday at the Multipurpose Stadium in Peddem, with many of the country’s top young shuttlers delivering dominant performances.

Punjab’s Wazir Singh capped a memorable run in the Boys’ U15 Singles, defeating Delhi’s Harshit Khatri 21-18, 21-17 in the final, having earlier knocked out top seed Pushkar Sai. In the Girls’ U15 Singles, Karnataka’s top-seeded Shaina Manimuthu proved too strong for Aryama Chakraborty of West Bengal, winning 21-9, 21-13.

The U15 Boys’ Doubles saw Haryana’s Jaivardhan Hooda and Delhi’s Harshit Khatri rally from a game down to beat the second-seeded Delhi pair of Vivaan Bisht and Chinmay Krishna Nimmagadda 19-21, 21-11, 21-18. Maharashtra’s Sharayu Ranjane emerged as a standout performer, clinching two titles: the Girls’ U15 Doubles alongside Soyara Shelar (21-23, 21-12, 21-15) against Tamil Nadu’s Bhavanthiga Ramkumar and Neha S, and the Mixed U15 Doubles with Andhra’s Hemanth Sri Sammetla, beating Punjab’s Zorawar Singh and Inayat Gulati 21-16, 21-10.

In the U17 category, Assam’s Bornil Akash Changmai stunned top-seed Dev Ruparelia of Maharashtra with a one-sided 21-10, 21-8 win in the Boys’ Singles final. Delhi’s Rishika Nandi clinched the U17 Girls’ Singles title, easing past Mohitha Polavaram of Tamil Nadu 21-18, 21-11.

Karnataka dominated the U17 Doubles events. In Boys’ Doubles, Pavan S and Punith S overcame Manipur’s Rishav Ngangom and Mangsuan Vemai Kyoveio 21-14, 21-18. The Girls’ Doubles crown went to Aditi Deepak Raj and Vriddhi Ponnamma B. V, who edged past Suhina Roy and Aikya Shetty 21-16, 21-19 in an all-Karnataka final. Aditi added another title to her name in the Mixed Doubles, partnering Punith S. to defeat Tamil Nadu’s Taranraj Raja and Krithya Siva Sankar 19-21, 21-18, 21-13.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Manoj Patil, President of the Goa Badminton Association, along with Secretary Praveen Shenoy and Treasurer Sanjay Bhobe. Also present were Organising Secretary Wayne Fernandes and Tournament Directors Navneet Nasnodkar and Samir Sangodkar, among others.
