Somewhere on the northern coastal belt: He could be yourbrother, your son but he too had dreams, till he drifted away. He now wants toclutch on to his dreams again. The Goan met Karan, (name changed) currentlyundergoing rehab, but someone who has seen life on the other side. “I haveruined by life unknowingly, I will change it now, I want to become a softwareengineer after I recover from the drug addiction,” says Karan from Calangute.Karan begin smoking cigarettes in class eight and took to drugs two yearslater.
The Goan met Karan at a time when he is on his way torecovery. “I want to keep my parents happy. After six years, I celebrated mybirthday without heroin and cocaine. I hugged my dad and mom and said sorry tothem,” Karan states.
A good hockey player, Karan started peddling, as he wantedmore money to consume superior drugs. “I use to deal with LSD, MDMA, ecstasy,speed, ketamine, cocaine and heroin”
He took the names of notorious criminals like Fatinga andMichael. He says they are not bad boys but greed took over, due to drugs andthey unknowingly started robbing people. “I know them all, they were myfriends, now I don’t want to keep that friendship”. On his regular visits topolice stations, he claims, “I have been to police stations about twentytimes”. Police used to detain him under section 41, but there is no offenceregistered against his name in any of the police stations.
“I use to peddle drugs only to foreigners; sometime I usedto give them duplicate drugs where I earned double money. I was 90% into drugpeddling and 10% soliciting tourists” says Karan. He said that narcoticsubstances and synthetic drugs come to Goa from Barabanki in UP, about 20 kms fromLucknow.
“I also knew Dudu (an alleged Israeli drug dealer) but usedto get drugs from Deelip Simipurushkar, Tyran, Juvav, Andrew (Bhatkar) andAbel” he adds. They sell drugs in the Calangute and Baga belt, according toKaran. He also asks, “Why doesn’t the police catch these peddlers? There aremore than 150-200 drug peddlers, who are also drug addicts in the Calangute andBaga coast” Karan claims. He says he has even noticed peddlers who were schoolboys in class eight and nine. “Even I was helping the ANC book the cases” hesaid.
“Something should be done to eradicate drugs from Goa as Ihave ruined my life and my family because of my addiction” says Karan.
