Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar launched TechFest 2017 in the presence of Goa Shipyard's CMD Shekhar Mital and EDC's Chairman Sidharth Kuncalienker.
President of ISHRAE's Goa Chapter, Michael Martins, said, "The shipbuilding sector is booming this year. But, there are very few vendors in this space. Therefore, we are organising TechFest 2017 in collaboration with Goa Shipyard. Through this event, the idea is to increase the vendor base, increase awareness among suppliers and manufacturers about opportunities in marine sector."
In Goa, traditionally, tourism has been a big sector. Therefore, most engineers and service providers in heating and refrigerating space supply services to hotels in the tourism sector. Often, they are unaware of the opportunities in the marine sector.
The idea of TechFest 2017 is to make everyone aware of huge opportunities in shipbuilding and related industries.
Vishal Kapur, national president, ISHRAE, said, "Our society is a technical professional body, which comprises of individual engineers.
No corporates are our members. Our prime task is education and developing standards in this space in collaboration with government and industry."
Events like TechFest 2017 assume significance because the central government is focusing on cost effective strategies, which will revamp ports, increase cargo traffic while reducing the wastage of food and other perishable items.
All this means that demand for heating, refrigerating and air conditioning equipment will increase in the maritime sector.
