Leading public sector Vijaya Bank is in talks with the State government in a bid to fund projects in the State.
“We are expecting partnership with Goa for further funding, and talks are going on with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in this regard,” said Vijaya Bank MD & CEO Kishore Kumar Sansi when asked about Vijaya Bank’s growth in Goa during the sidelines of a function in Bogmalo.
“Goa has an annual budget of Rs 14,000 crore which may not be sufficient for the trajectories that is projected by the government. So, Vijaya Bank is happy to extend that helping hand to help Goa grow,” said Sansi.
Speaking to media, Sansi stated that Vijaya Bank is over eight decades old and was founded on October 23 1931 on the auspicious Vijayadashmi day in Mangalore.
“Since then, the bank has built a network of 1,863 branches, 49 extension counters and 1,651 ATMs that pan across all states and union territories in the country, while it has the highest number of branches in its home state of Karnataka. Vijaya Bank, with a total business of Rs 2,16,000 crore, has shown excellent results in FY 2015-16. The bank offers bouquets of innovative and attractive products and services to the customers through latest technology to provide the best services,” he said.
Sansi also informed the media that Vijaya Bank has witnessed 23 per cent improvement in operating profits for FY 2015-2016 and also reported quarterly profit of Rs 71 crore and yearly profits of Rs 381 crore.
“During the last year, in spite of the gloomy industrial scenario, the bank was able to register one of the largest growths in the retail credit of 26 per cent, which includes housing loans segment growth by 34.1 per cent and vehicle loans by 33.4 per cent,” he said.
Stating that the bank's CSR initiative has become an integral part of its programmes over the years, Sansi said Vijaya Bank had been taking up activities leading to socio-economic growth even before the concept of CSR was formally introduced into the corporate sector.
“Over the years we have adopted blind schools, girl child adoption programmes, building toilet blocks in schools, rural health centres, infrastructural support to rural students, go-green initiatives, safe drinking water, donation towards ambulances and health services, scholarship to meritorious students and donations during natural calamities,” said Sansi.
“The bank has a robust CSR policy which aims at creating infrastructure and providing access to growth factors to the needy and marginalized section of the society for their development on a sustainable basis,” the bank's managing director added.
