Augustias Sporting Club

Augustias Sporting Club

Formed in 2001

Currently playing in the third division in football and Cdivision in cricket

President: Michael Ferrao

Coach:  None

The Augustias Sporting Club is focused on providing aplatform for the boys of Pomburpa, Aldona and Moira to improve their skills infootball and cricket and prepare them for a professional career in either ofthese sports.  Since the players of theteams are employed they practice over the weekends and participate ininter-village tournaments. The football team has won inter-village tournamentsin the past like the Aldona Cup and the Shiolin Cup. This year, however, it hasnot been very successful as several players have left them to play with othervillage teams. Players like Amar Velankar from the club is now playing  for Vasco and Goa Velha, while Sidesh hasmoved on to play with Calangute Association and Aron Fernandes for Dempojuniors and the state junior team. With regards to cricket, the team practicesoff and on, before tournaments.

We spend around Rs.70, 000 annually on participation feesand other costs inorder to take part in various inter-village tournaments. Wereceive donations and we pitch in also but it is not enough to keep the clubgoing. This is also the reason why we are not able to participate in as manyinter-village tournaments as we would have liked. I am determined this clubwill provide an opportunity for the boys to play football and possibly find aplace in the big professional teams in the state or even in other clubs playingin the various divisions.

Michael Ferrao

The Driving Force

As the present President Michael Ferraolikes to put it, as a social worker he was keen to help others and othertalented players with an opportunity to achieve greater things in life.
