The Knights are a young team with a storyakin to the Mighty Ducks. After literally sitting courtside as children, theydecided to take matters in their own hands and change things around. Havingneither the funds nor the means, they started practicing on the quiet. It wasprecisely this level of dedication and determination that held them in goodstead however, as they went on to push for greater glory. Now a full-fledgedprofessional squad, they still train on their own, with no trainer or manager, and still manage to excel.
Five years down the line and the lads arestill playing with their original line-up, as their camaraderie is what setsthem apart from most squads. Dedication is something that is clearly not foundwanting. As unofficial team spokesperson and member Flaubert Monteiro states,“We put in a fair amount of time on the court. It is a minimum two hour routineon a daily basis. You’ll always find us on the court either at six am or six pmdepending on our respective routines.”
The Knights are yet to win a major title asa professional team, but having grown through the ranks by representing DonBosco as a school, as well as high school, they have managed to successfullyaccumulate eight titles over four years.
In recent times, theYMCA stepped in as an active sponsor of the team, so as to aid the team’sfinancial needs, and permit them to participate at a professional level. The Knights in turn have repaid in full, bystepping up their game, and being selected as the only youth team to haverepresented Goa professionally.
If their recentachievements are anything to go by, there is an indication of a massive leapforward, and clearly these lads have a long way to go before their proverbialjoust ends.
