The Government of Goa will issue tender for Mopa airport on Friday January 15 after the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar announced that he had cleared the file.

“The RFP (Request for financial proposals) will be issued tomorrow. An advertisement will appear in various newspapers. All the five bidders -- Airports Authority of India, GVK Infra, GMR Infra and Essel Group -- have been found to be technically competent and are eligible to bid and the winner will be announced the same day,” Parsekar said.

Parsekar who was responding to amendments on the Governor’s address moved by the Opposition, said that the bidders will have 90 days to file their bids.

Chief Minister also defended the State borrowings which have touched Rs 950 crore this year saying that the money is spent on capital investments and not on schemes of the government.

“There are allegations that we are spending borrowed money to keep the government welfare schemes running. This is not true. The borrowing is only for capital assets. The bridges and other infrastructure we are putting in place is for the future generation,” Parsekar said.

Infrastructure was the thrust of the CM’s reply citing the various road widening project underway, the third Mandovi Bridge, the upcoming Zuari Bridge, bypasses, beautification projects and the like.

He also said that the government was moving forward in several sectors especially IT and if there was any reason that the State has missed the IT bus it was because of the previous Congress government which didn’t do anything about it but spent money on useless parks. The Governor’s speech was later approved and adopted by the House by a voice vote.
