Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India , society of integrated coastal management, The World Bank and department of Environment, Government of Goa in association with Goa State biodiversity board a special programme as part of World Environment Day celebrations highlighting the importance of beach ecosystem and issues concerning the same.
Mayor of Corporation of City of Panaji Uday Madkaikar was the chief guest and director, department of environment, Ravi Jha was the guest of honour. Other dignitaries present were commissioner of CCP Shashank Tripathi, member secretary GSBB Pradip Sarmokadam, Saurabh Sharma, SICOM, representatives of Fomento Media and public. The programme began with beach clean up drive and Ipomea creeper plantation on sand dunes. The chief guest later unveiled the effigy created at the Miramar beach highlighting the consequences of plastic pollution on marine and human life. Films based on beach ecosystem were also screened on the occasion. Students of People’s HS, Panaji participated in the event.
