“Aadhaar will ensure increased trust between public andprivate agencies and residents. Once residents enrol for Aadhaar, serviceproviders will no longer face the problem of performing repeated Know YourCustomer (KYC) checks before providing services. They would no longer have todeny services to residents without identification documents. Residents wouldalso be spared the trouble of repeatedly proving identity through documentseach time they wish to access services such as obtaining a bank account,passport, or driving license etc”
During my recent visit to the Regional Passport Offi ce in Panjim,I noted that the enquiry counter staff refused to accept an Aadhar card from alady applicant as proof of her residence for issue of a passport.
They would not buy the argument by the said lady that Aadharis supposed to be a unique identification document issued by the Government OfIndia and hence ought to be accepted as one of the documents for proof ofresidence. Will the UIDAI and the Passport authorities clarify their stand onthis issue and explain why Aadhar Cards cannot be accepted at the RPOs forissuing passports to Indian citizens?
