Everywhere Indians

A UN study has estimated that nearly 244 million people, or 3.3 per cent of the world’s population live in a country other than the one where they were born.

These migrants are concentrated in 20 countries and Indians form the world’s largest diaspora with 16 million living abroad. We are literally everywhere. The large number reflects the large population of 1.27 billion that the sub-continent hosts and there are no signs that this movement of people will stop. On the contrary it is growing at a faster rate than the world’s population, the study noted. The movement of people across nations has repercussions for the host nation and well as the country of origin. Of course,
if Satya Nadella and Sunder Pichai had stayed back they might
not have reached the heights they achieved in the US, and
this is the reason why many migrate. Migration also ends up
changing the politics of the host nation, especially in countries
that have a tradition of inclusion. It’s the trade off that all
nations which open their arms to migrants have to live with.
