Government provides subsidies for purchase of trawlers, nets and diesel. There is pension for trawler owners during the fishing ban period. A huge revenue is squandered on the fishing industry. But what is the benefit to Goan tax payers? There is no compulsion on sale of fish to locals. The transfer is believed to be taking place on high seas itself. The employees are all migrants. There is visible nexus between fish importers and naturally no determined efforts to nail the culprits poisoning our food with formalin. Goans are being fleeced because of their traditional food habits. The price of ordinary fish has hit the roof, except for those who enjoy it gratis.
