Human lives are not as precious as they used to be, judging by the number of terror attacks around the world recently. Europe has faced the brunt of this, partly due to the rising intolerance to immigrants and also the participation of many countries in the war against Islamic State. The recent bomb blast in St Petersburg, which left over 50 injured and around 14 dead, has sent shockwaves through the country.
When it comes to ISIS, Russia has been a very sharp thorn in their side. St Petersburg is the country’s second largest city and their biggest tourist destination - a ‘perfect’ target. There is no direct proof that ISIS was responsible for this attack, but all signs point to some kind of fundamentalism. The suspect in the bombings has links to Krygyzstan, a predominately Muslim country that is part of Asia, which has seen over 500 of its citizens travel to Syria to join Islamic State in recent times. The Boston Marathon bomber brothers were also from the same country. This is now getting serious, and it’s only a matter of time before this could result in a war which kills thousands and more at a time. USA, Russia and countries across the world need to find common ground in this battle.
