At various spots we come across plastic bags, waste papers and other garbage dumped near electrical transformers. Such a practice is indeed dangerous and bound to cause adverse consequences. In case the garbage is set ablaze by any of the municipal workers or members from public, there is every possibility of the transformers catching fire thereby resulting in loss to property. Residents staying nearby as also pedestrians remain at a great disadvantage. Hence dumping garbage near transformers should be avoided at all costs. In Ponda we notice such an instance near Princess Heritage Complex in the vicinity of old bus-stand. At Adpai village (also in Ponda) garbage is being dumped very close to the transformer situated behind the Goa State Co-operative Bank Ltd. The adjoining picture is proof of this. The higher officials at the electricity department should take a serious note of this important matter and deal firmly with persons indulging in such a destructive practice. Necessary cash fines must be levied upon the defaulters without any discrimination. Let us hope that prompt favourable steps will follow in public interest.
